Wellness

Wellness Policy

The purpose of the School Wellness policy to promote school wellness, reduce childhood obesity, and ensure that school meals and other food and beverages sold and otherwise made available on the school campus during the school day are consistent with the applicable local, state, and federal standards.

Wellness Committee

Gentry Academy created a Wellness Committee that is committed to the health and wellness of its students, teachers, and staff. The committee will work together to meet four times each year to discuss and plan how schools can further follow the Wellness policy and in turn accomplish its goal of ensuring a school environment that promotes and protects students’ health, well-being and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity.

Summer Food Programs

We want to ensure that all our students and their families have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer. We are pleased to share information from the Minnesota Department of Education in regards to the The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).  The SFSP is designed to fill the nutrition gap during the summer months and make sure children can get the nutritious meals they need to achieve. Lead in School Drinking Water

The commissioners of health and education shall jointly develop a model plan to require school districts to accurately and efficiently test for the presence of lead in water in public school buildings serving students in kindergarten through grade 12. To the extent possible, the commissioners shall base the plan on the standards established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The plan may be based on the technical guidance in the Department of Health’s document, “Reducing Lead in Drinking Water: A Technical Guidance for Minnesota’s School and Child Care Facilities.”  As required by the State of Minnesota and as part of our commitment to facility safety and maintenance, Gentry Academy is following the requirements of Minn. Stat 121A.335 and Minnesota Department of Health guidance which includes sampling for the presence of lead in drinking water in our school building.
